Frederick Rhodes Sisson,

1893-1962, painter, teacher, art critic, an award winning graduate of The Rhode Island School of Design. In 1916 he served in World War I for 2 years, returning as a resident studio assistant to Abbot Thayer in Dublin, New Hampshire until Thayer's death in 1921.  He studied figure painting at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and between 1922 and 1923 he studied abroad in Italy, North Africa and Paris, where he was influenced by modern schools. In 1924 he returned to the Rhode Island School where he instructed in drawing and painting until his retirement in 1952. Member: Providence Art Club, Providence Water Color Club.  Died in 1962
